اَللَّهُمَّ رَحْمَتَكَ أَرْجُو فَلاَ تَكِلْنِيْ إِلَى نَفْسِيْ طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ، وَأَصْلِحْ لِيْ شَأْنِيْ كُلَّهُ، لاَ إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

DEPRESSION (kemurungan) - What you need to know?

Hahaha today I would like 2 speking2 with all of u..heheee bg otk ni jln skit..

What is a depressive disorder?
All of us feel sad when things go wrong but a depressive disorder is an illness that involves your body, mood and thoughts.
  • It is not a temporary low mood.
  • It is not a sign of weakness.
  • It is not something you can ‘snap out of’.
  • It cannot be wished away.
  • People with depression cannot merely pull themselves together and get better.
If depression is not treated, it can last for months or years. It can cause physical illness and increase the risk of suicide.

Symptoms of depression..
Depressed people may:
  • Feel persistently sad or ‘empty’.
  • Be anxious and irritable.
  • Lose interest ‘hilang semangat’.
  • Have problems with sleep.
  • Lose their appetite and weight.
  • Have poor concentration.
  • Feel lonely, helpless, worthless.
  • Have thought of death.
  • Have persistent physical symtoms e.g. headache,gastric problems and chronic pain.

What causes depression?
Often a combination of factors is involved:
* GENETICS PREDISPOSITION – It can be inherited.
* People with low self-esteem.
* Stressful enviroment.
* Adverse life events.
* Lack of a supporting relationship.

Treatment of depression…
-         All depressed people benefit from simple counselling.
-         A variety of medication can also help.These include the anti-depressants.
-         The effect of these treatement may not be seen immediately, so the depressed person must be advised not to stop medicine if he does not feel better straightaway.
-         In severe depression, electro-convulsive therapy (ECT), is effective.
-         In chronic depression, certain types of psychotherapy may be beneficial.

Helping yourself !!!
If you are depressed, you may feel exhausted, helpless and worthless. There are negative thoughts which are part of depression. Negative thoughts disappear after treatment. BUT in the meantime:
-         Do not set yourself difficult goals.
-         Do not take a great deal of responsibility.
-         Break large tasks into smaller ones and set some priorities.
-         Do not make major life decisions.
-         Do not accept your negative thoughts.

Helping the depressed..
~ Take him to a doctor.
~ Offer comfort and encouragement.
~ Keep reassuring him.
~ Offer constructive advice.
~ Help him set realistic goals.
~ don’t blame him for being ill.
~ don’t let him take alcohol.
~ If he talks of dying,, inform his doctor.

Lastly,,Steps to good mental health !!!
Exercise regularly
Take care or your diet,,,Get enough sleep
Make time for leisure & learn to relax,,Be realistic about yourself,,Spread out the change in yourself..
Share your problems with friends & relatives,,Plan your time well & prioritise,,Deal contructively with negative feelings,,Build a happy family….
